The Tiny Reset

A small reset for the first few seconds of a hard moment.

Understand what happens in your body when the moment gets loud, lower the intensity one notch, and choose your next move.

Not a parenting guide. Not a script. A first-few-seconds guide.

5 steps: Notice → Downshift → Choose → Repair → Repeat

Why it works

When your child is hitting, screaming, or refusing, your body moves before your thinking does.

The jaw tightens. The voice sharpens. And then the guilt. Sometimes it hits you in the same breath. Sometimes it creeps in hours later.

This is not a knowledge problem. It is a hard-moment pattern, what your system reaches for under pressure.

Your nervous system has already reacted before your thinking has caught up. You are not choosing to snap. Your body is moving faster than your brain.

The Tiny Reset works at the level of the body, not knowledge. It helps you catch what happens in the first few seconds, lower the intensity one notch, choose what happens next, and come back when you miss.

The method

The Tiny Reset Loop

A small, repeatable way back in the moment things start to tip.

1

Notice

Catch the body signal. Tight jaw, heat, urgency, shutting down. That is the first moment of choice.

2

Downshift

Bring the intensity down one notch. One exhale. Feet on the floor. Shoulders drop.

3

Choose

Pick one next steady move your child can handle right now. Fewer words. More presence.

4

Repair

Come back when it went sideways. Not a performance. A short, honest return.

5

Repeat

This is how the muscle builds. Not by getting it right. By coming back.

The free guide covers the first three steps. The full loop is the practice.

This is body-first, not script-first. The goal is not perfect calm. It is a steadier return.

What it looks like in real life

It's 5pm. She throws the cup. Again. You feel the heat rise before you've even registered what happened.

Notice:

Jaw locked. Shoulders up. “There it is.”

Downshift:

One long exhale. Feet on the floor.

Choose:

Get low. Fewer words. “I see you. The cup stays on the table.”

Repair:

Later, when things are calm. “I got big before. I'm sorry. I'm here now.”

Repeat:

Tomorrow it happens again. You catch it a beat sooner.

Not perfect. Just steadier than what your body wanted to do a moment ago.
