The Little Resilience Co. Approach

Behaviour does not happen in isolation.

Most approaches to parenting focus on what the child is doing. The Little Resilience Co. Human Factors and systems approach looks at the whole picture.

We consider the child, the adult, the environment, the demands of the moment, and the patterns developing between them. Because behaviour is shaped by all of these factors, not just one.

The language stays practical and accessible. This is not a clinical framework. It is a way of seeing what is actually happening, so parents can respond to the real situation rather than reacting to the surface.

The questions we ask

Instead of starting with the behaviour, the Little Resilience Co. approach starts with the system around it.

1

What is the child trying to manage?

2

Which developmental skill is required?

3

Does the child currently have access to that skill?

4

What is happening in the adult?

5

What pressure is the environment adding?

6

What pattern is developing between parent and child?

7

What can be changed earlier in the system?

What this means in practice

These are the ideas that shape how we work with parents.

Skills and access are not the same thing

A child can have a skill without being able to access it in every moment. Tiredness, hunger, overstimulation, or emotional flooding can all reduce access to skills a child has already developed.

Parent capacity shapes the moment

How a parent responds is shaped by their own state, load, and available capacity. When the adult is depleted, the same moment can unfold very differently.

The environment adds or reduces pressure

Noise, timing, transitions, public settings, and the physical space all contribute to how a moment unfolds. The environment is part of the system.

Relationships are feedback systems

What happens between parent and child is not one-directional. Each person responds to the other, and patterns develop over time through repeated interactions.

Behaviour is information, not the whole explanation

What a child does on the surface is one signal. Underneath it, there are developmental, emotional, physical, and relational factors shaping the behaviour.

Everything is interconnected

Development, emotions, movement, thinking, and relationships do not operate in separate boxes. They influence each other constantly.
